5 Steps for a Quick Blog Post SEO Check

5 Steps for a Quick Blog Post SEO Check

As a publisher, you want to give your posts the best chances of success. In other words, you want to increase their visibility in a way they are served to the right people at the right time. A blog post SEO check before publishing does just that.

When it comes to social media marketing, your targeting might be impeccable, but you will always be pushing content a person hasn’t actually asked for (except in cases of re-targeting). Not only that, the chances are high that you’ll simply catch them in the wrong time.

This is why SEO traffic (organic traffic) works wonderfully. You are able to connect your audience to your content at the exact moment when they are ready to read it. Thanks to their search query (if your text is relevant to the text they are searching for), you already have a guarantee that they are interested in what you have to say.

Therefore, it’s definitely worth it to make a blog post SEO check before publishing to make sure your content has the best chances of becoming the darling of search engines.

SEO optimized websites
Google loves when websites are SEO-friendly.

So, let’s take a look at how you can do a quick blog post SEO check in 10 minutes or less before publishing:

1) It all starts with keywords in a blog post SEO check

You should research which keywords to incorporate in your content before you start the actual writing. After you’re done, it’s just a matter of checking the density (which is ideally between 1-2%, according to Alexa) and making sure the surrounding text is relevant to those central keywords. You should also make sure that your primary keyword is in at least one of your headings.

Here are some tools you can use to check keyword density of your blog post:

Go for an ideal keyword density of 1-2% for blog posts.

2) Check image alt-tags

Every time you add an image or any kind of visual to your blog post, you should add an SEO-friendly alt tag. These bits of text are also important for users for whom images won’t load. If the image is important for the context and understanding of the text in its entirety, alt-tags will appear and save the day.

Most importantly, you will up your rankings on Google’s image search by choosing your alt tags wisely. Make sure you incorporate as much images as you can and always optimize them for search engines.

3) Include external and internal links

Link to credible websites with a high domain authority. You can check a domain’s authority score here. This is important because pointing to unreliable, low-quality website will result in Google identifying your site as similar.

You should also add internal links with relevant anchor text in order to create a great internal map of your website.

4) Add your blog post to Google Search Console

Google’s Search Console is a tool you can use to improve your organic traffic numbers. If you’re using it for the first time, you will have to connect your domain (property) and prove that it’s yours.

Basically, what you want to do here is check and make sure that Google has indexed your new blog post. If it misses your new blog post, it will never be shown to searchers.

Test whether Google has indexed your blog post.

Do this by doing a URL inspection on the top of the search console. If your new blog post is indexed, you will get the message above: “URL is on Google”. If it’s not, you should request manual indexing to make sure your post is presented to searchers.

5) Start building backlinks

As soon as your blog post is published and indexed, you should start building links back to it. You can reach out to websites to do a guest post where a link to your new blog will be included, or ask friends and colleagues to share the link on their website.

Can you do a blog post SEO check fast?

Finally, as you can see, it’s very much possible to do all of these steps in under ten minutes. If you have researched and picked the right keywords beforehand, you only have to focus on the keywords, make sure your page is indexed and start building backlinks.
